Black Thursday 9.9.10
General news 2010-08-22 21:01 by sonic
Facebook event: Please promote!!
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=113246932063703

The Situations are heading to Hamilton for Black Thursday 9th September. Having often shared the stage with Shaft, The Coolies, The Transistors and The Quick and the Dead in Auckland, they head south to Hamilton to play with Penelope The and Nightmares.
The Situations can heard right now on Contact FM. Tune in to hear exclusive tracks from the bands Spanish-only 7" release (Munster Records).
They toured Europe in 2007, playing legendary clubs such as Vera in Groningen, NL, and opened for The White Stripes in Australia.
The Situations draw many a comparison, ranging from The Fall to The Modern Lovers, but the term 'Garage Rock' seems to fit well.

Contact FM's 89FM frequency bid
General news 2010-08-11 14:13 by Andrew_TA
We have an online petition available now: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/contactfm/

Contact FM has been the student radio station on campus at the University of Waikato for over 30 years. It is your station, your voice, and we take great pride in supporting student culture on campus. We represent an alternative viewpoint from mainstream media.
In the 1990’s, the WSU (under voluntary unionism) sold off the rights to the Contact 89FM frequency to commercial interests. This frequency is coming up for renewal in April 2011, and we would like your support in getting this frequency back.
If our bid for the 89FM frequency is successful, this would enable Contact FM to rejoin the B-net. This would mean we would be eligible for B-net funding.
We will be able to represent you and student culture at a regional scale. All other university cities in New Zealand have the benefit of having a B-net station. Hamilton has been deprived of a proper B-net station for the last 10 years. It is time to fix this.
Sign our petition to show your support for our bid.
Many thanks
Contact FM

Rumpus Room Back Catalogue - Cheesy Love Song
General news 2010-08-09 17:56 by sonic
Ok, so we were dusting off the tapes and CD's and discovered that Rumpus Room have recorded a fair number of songs over the years, mostly demos.
Click on the poster above to download the previously unreleased demo of Rumpus Room's Cheesy Love Song. A rare one this, as it was only ever played live once and the recording has never seen the light of day until now.
The recordings are pretty lo-fi do-it-yourself kinda-deals.
And we are letting them out, one by one for free.
Click the Dog cover to for a free download of Dog. Our first ever recording and release, Dog was recorded in the old fridge recording studio on a 16 track real to real.
Please help yourself. -
