Highlights - Die!Die!Die!, Pikelet, everything about Matt Crawley, Sets Of 57, Disciples Of Macca, The Enright House indoor set, Tourettes, Thai Chicken Curry, showers that work, lots of nice people

Sucklights - The Phoenix Foundation (wtf?), Brunettes (ditto), the words 'I'd now like to invite onto the stage', having to fuck off half way through it, finding out boxwars wasn't what i'd hoped it was

which is my point. i think.

It was more than I imagined. I was most impressed with the samurai dino-bot, and giant cock monster. The tie fighter was funny, but didn't really stand a chance.

Loved it! Got so much sleep to catch up on. Weather was phemeno. Calm and sunny, then 2 hours of cleansing gentle rain at the exact halfway mark, Monday morning!

Especially enjoyed;

Bang! Bang! Aids! Absolutely amazing, really original stage show an presence. Controlled cacophony. Two drummers and a guitarist. Some collective ‘drull’ vocals after hardcore noise drums/guitar trashing was my only ‘goose bump moment’ of the festival. Cool as dudes to hang out with too. Unfortunately that was one of their last gigs ever. Main dude with mousy hair/beard is off to Japan.

Popolice. Noisy, guitar drone singer song writer-stuff, I’m now a fan.

The Pheonix Foundation. I understand why some people wouldn’t like them. The vocalists have a strange stage manner that could be construed as arrogance/rockstarness. I don’t get this impression, I think it’s funny as/self-parody).

TRANS AM!!!! Didn’t know there music but am now a convert. Everything I love; prog-rock, metal, kraut, synth all selectively funnelled into one. Next Level Stuff!

Alphabethead. Experimental turntables and trashing records, nothing else quite like it at festival.

Tourettes. Poet/rapper had entire audience silent - cherishing every word.

Boss Christ. Last night, 1.30 pm sing-a-long under the stars!

THANK YOU BLINK!!! Spent so much in the Merchandise tent! So So Modern coloured 7” records, Bang! Bang! Aids! Personalised 7”s.

Long-haired turntablist dude? Was he doing originals?

Ha, Ha. Alphabethead wasn’t a normal play record ‘DJ’. He really does use the turntables as instruments, plays tones/scratches/rearranges. I grilled him after his solo set and yes, he did do some originals. He also had a small feedback synthy thing with him and device for triggering his own beats/drones. He’s more like Kid Koala and DJ Shadow.

Another thing a liked was Hot Swiss Mistress’ second set. It was really sublime. Kinda Post-Rocky but with duel gravely male vocals.

BYO rules everything! And, I heard Blink talking about next year’s Camp already!

Yes, I know. I've met him, interviewed him and seen him perform several times. I was more surprised by his appearance at the event...

Highlights:

- GAVIN'S BUS!
- Pikelet
- Death in Gaza
- Die! Die! I am now converted
- Talking Korean shit with Mo
- The coldest water I have ever attempted to shower under
- Carrying 150 pounds of Orange cabinet up a fucking hill/staircase
- Matt Crawley "Ladies and gentleman - It's because of you, we are here, and this song... is because of you, and it's called because of you, because of you, we're here" and on and on until Petra's tequila kicked in. Things got kinda blurry after that!
- Alphabethead doing mime/comedy stuff during his awesome turntablisms, and for looking like Neil from the Young Ones.
- The $14 "BIG Breakfast" with the smallest sausages I've ever seen

Good times!

If you earned/won 5K and then when you went to collect it they said sorry new owners, not our problem! then the prize organiser posted pictures of Dawson crying on the interwebs to spite you... would you be ok with that?

If you waited 60 seconds, you'd have been treated to 15 seconds of water that felt like it came straight from the fires of hell, followed by 10 seconds of a nice balance, whereon the process would start again...

I gave up after two attempts and just resigned myself to being smelly/in the pool.

Though I have swum in a thawing stream in the CANADIAN ROCKIES so I do understand what cold means - and that Camp shower on Sunday morning was freezgink.

I think I had one nice hot shower then one cold shower then one absolutely FREEZING shower that I took in order to try and get over the worst hangover from hell but it just made me cleaner and more miserable.
They should make showering some sort of camp activity - group soap up then hose down.?

Give me more of that beat.

I'd watch that, ZMatt.

I've never been a fan of Boss Christ, but hearing him do a grind-blues version of Hank Williams' 'Lost Highway' with a cuppa in one hand and a gingernut bikkie in the other was my most rock n roll camp moment.

Actually I lie, it was the 3am hot shower with Dancing Stevie, half of Brand New Math and this pretty girl who writes for Salient. Doin' our bit for the drought.

And Jae having two swigs of tequila then throwing up in a bush. Mo's right, you are a sissy.

Lending a prominent NZ punk rock band a $20 note because they could afford cocaine and E but not anything to snort it up with.

Anything involving Jol Mulholland, this year's Notorious Drunk.

Phoenix Foundation were just too stoned to do anything but self-indulgent wank jams. Most bands had the courtesey to keep their stoned wank jams to their cabins.

Was that Nicola Kean or Stacey? Either of them are pretty cool lasses.

I thought Phoenix Foundation were great in their inebriated state! Their performance was a highlight (although their 3 song encore was 3 songs too long...)

Flick playing accoustic/beatbox canibal corpse at 6am on last night/morning was somewhat of a drowsy highlight also.

Fuck I think I drank too much though, kept being out for the count when the realest shit happened most nights by the sounds of things.

5 nights surrounded by cute indie girls who reputedly had nothing better to do than talk about how hot I am and I didn't get laid. And the only pash I got was from a guy.

Such is life.

Yeah, I have to say Jol and Chris G's 'white power' jam left a girl rather bored and nonplussed. Bloody stoners!

But anything like this I would have loved to witness.

Tsk tsk Petra, I had *alot* of whatever Gav had going before we even ventured out that night. Your shit just polished it off.

Nonetheless I am a pussy. I missed my wife/bed so hard (in that order). Not single or teenage so no chance of action at that camp!
